!!!.....

...Quickly reprogrammed the look of the blog to accommodate a little enthusiasm about the weather in 2012, originally all white and opposite, but quickly deemed it so eye damaging that i put it back except for a slight brownishness. Figure i may aswell tack an art update onto the end of this announcement featuring another ché attempt this time Minecraft creeper themed.

First something random i made in Alchemy (interesting program btw), tagline should probably be, Obscure worlds bringing you games we dont even understand yet!
 
A rather failed attempt at a Minecraft Creeper Ché.

A desktop i made for myself a while ago, its rough around the edges but i have used it non stop because its also largely undistracting.

Pipemaking Tutorial?

Pipemaking?.....

...A long time ago i wrote a short article on how to make a really simple pipe, thought to expand that with how to make more complex pipes and systems that work well aswell as the tools. Ill try to illustrate wherever possible.

DISCLAIMER: i ofcourse do not endorse, encourage or insist anyone uses this tutorial and you do so at your own risk. Yep, your own risk so i naturally take no blame for anything you occuring while making, smoking or doing anything ever that happens to harm yourself or another entity/object. And anyone reading this article should be aware of the risks of smoking a pipe (google it if you like).

Now onto the actual bit, this post will just cover the anatomy of a pipe and 3 of the more important tools, later posts will cover the specifics of wood type and creating tubes and bowls as well as fixings.

The Pipe. 
Consists of 3 general parts;
The Bowl where any all the action takes place;

The Stem not just there for decoration, cools the smoke slightly and gets that hot burny bit further away from your face;

The Mouthpeice something nice to suck on.

The tools.

Although not all the tools i will mention, these three are important for maintenance and building your pipe;

Wire, for cleaning out tricky internal bits and clearing out wood pith in some woods;

Knife, for most shaping and work, also used for creating the bowl, i use 2, one with a shallow pitched blade (easy) and one with a steep blade (the bowl shaping).

The Ugly.

Quite simply with a little knowledge, practice and understanding you can acheive pretty much anything you like. Ive built all kinda of things using only these tools not just pipes.

In the next post, woods and which ones to use aswell as some random bits and bobs im sure ill decide to throw in at the time.

UNUSUAL UPDATE!!.....

...Thought i would do something different and post some music im listening to atm. Before i continue anyone who reads my blog please leave me a comment somewhere if you can :), i would really appreciate the feedback.

Music: now ill be the first to say my taste in music is just a little bit crazy, tbh i dont even know when i got into half this stuff.
I just know the range of interests is broad and the music is not everyones peice of cake.

So lets start with 2009 the year of dubstep

But during 2010 dubstep became popular and the true wobble styles of it shrunk and diminished and were replaced by glitch and other "Radio 1" styles.

So i soon moved back to hip-hop, discovering a love for anything with a great instrumental backing it up.

Ofcourse im still hooked on a good instrumental. Although all my life i had beleived that what i liked about certain songs over others was a solid beat to enjoy, now suddenly in 2010 i realised that infact i enjoyed the composure of music.

If its put together well ill love it!
More on this another time, please comment and i'll probably write it sooner xD. But until then Stay happy and keep listening to the music you love.

...wow you lucky people, an art update and a new japan's so crazy in the same day! Also expect news on the mapmaker "cartographer" that im programming at the moment soon, because its almost at V08 and V09 is the first fully featured version.

Anyway on with the art, today we have a trippy combination of fractals, 3d shading and a picture of a monkey dragging a woman accross the floor.

Also the new Crazy japan pic, coloured by my in very crayony colours.

GAME DEV INFO!.....

...here's an update on game projects at the moment, for the full shiny indiedb article go here

First i should appologise for the complete lack of updates, although i  know very few people will read this here and probably even less read the  post before this "Personal Project" but i haven't updated on these  things because of being so busy with learning about the LÖVE Engine and  lua. Although i know that is no excuse to you (whoever you may be), so  i'll make this post a super bumper special update with lots of art and  commentary and stuff!!!

but since i like to reward the one or two strange people who visit this blog ill post a little unique writup here and some other news 

Its been a long route since i first imagined Ran and since then alot of projects have been created and passed into a deep sleep to either be throttled to death or woken up.
Since Ran there has been HIVE, DragRacer, AudioTree, SpaceInRaiders/NeonPoop,

In other news, there isnt really any other news. I recently started a course in college which is going well so far, apart from today im ill :(, little art has been done lately and although i have done the occasional mix i have yet to upload a single one. Partly due to not liking bits of one or two of them and also my upload rate, which is beyond shit and evil.

GAME DEV INFO!.....

...here's some info about a game im working on at the moment thats going quite well :D.



The idea is this:
players are played a chiptune jingle or part of a chiptune song, they then have to rebuild that tune with connected hexagons of different colours.
a percentage of correctness is needed for a pass, with A,B,C and Fail grades,the pass varies on the difficulty level.
ideas im toying round with,
every time you relisten to the tune the percentage needed rises
having each tune being part of a song and the final test being to create the whole song.
thats enough of me rambling though and heres some screenshots

 Here are two recent screenshots showing the menu ive created atm and how the game looks at the moment displaying all of the colours ingame atm.

im currently working on the code that reads the connections from the diamond shape, which will be the backbone of the game itself

MASSIVE PIXELS!.....

...Seems like ive been doing alot more pixel art the last few days, so i feel like its about time i put together a post to show off the art ive done for various game projects and recent pixel art.

First, game projects and the art related to them.

The art below is from a game project called, "Ran" as a WIP name.

it is going to be about office life, with mulitiple endings and some RPG elements and sandbox elements.

although at the moment this is on the side due to me being unable to code Z-ordering in.

Ok, well onto the actual art

this image is a render of the wip main character Ran expressing emotion with the emotions system i had started to work in.

plan was that this would allow you to communicate in a very intuitive way with other office workers without needing to use a speech menu

Clint-Ché creative process

Peek into creative process.....

...just a short post to show you how i make some of my photo editing stuff.

To start with i decided to create this image as a new profile picture for my Steam account (stoneCrow or stonecrowuk). My last 2 pics had been the Ché pic and a skullché and since my recent addiction to the mod Fistfull of Frags i figured it would be cool to make a western Ché-style pic.

So who else would be suitable for this picture than Clint Eastwood.
 
I googled around for a suitable pose and found this picture then i cut out a fairly square section of the image with only the bit i wanted for the picture.
After that i seperated his face area and the rest of the image into 2 layers using the box and circle select tools with additive and subtractive boxes (shift or ctrl on gimp), Rendering the 2 layers red and white with the gimp colourify tool (found at the bottom of the colours tab).

I then changed the brightness and contrast of the 2 layers seperately using a tool in the colours tab, with alot less contrast on the face so facial features still stood out.

Oilify was used on the face to make it a little less photo-like and more like a mural.
This next snapshot the light region on the left side of his face has been removed with the Burn tool, set to burn not lighten (whatever that other one is called) and only to affect the lightest region.

I did this because compared to the original Ché image the lighting on Eastwoods face was a little complex for what i wanted

Also the 2 layers were joined at this point, with the wet tool being used to smooth the join between the 2 and the edges of his hair a little.
Finally i noticed that his neck looked a little odd in red so reselected that zone in the same way as i did his face earlier and recoloured it white/grey covering up the oddities with the smudge tool

So that is how that image was created in stages, i hope someone reads this who actually finds a use or interest for it. For everyone else, i hope you enjoyed a look at the progression of one of my images.

...just me messing around with recolouring, if you remember the last stuff i did . you can see the difference, 1, this was done with a pencil drawing instead of easier line art, 2, my newer surreal style accidentally infected this pic xD

was a dead man in a bath where that brain was, but i hated looking at it while i was editing it haha

A little Art for you all.....

now for the new art, mostly all trippy stuff this time, ive been experimenting with photos as fractals again, made a visual illusion logo for ObscureWorlds and did a little more 3d work

  This is a logo for Obscure worlds, open the larger version and scan your eyes around the image you should see little yellow dots appear inbetween the gaps at the corners of the yellow blocks, its supposed to be a surreal image of a dual core processor. The white O obviously being Obscure worlds

 This 3d image was dont mostly to make sure i dont get rusty at using blender, its pretty basic because it only took 1/2 an hour to get most of it done.

 This image is created from 3 different textures, 2 rust images and a yellow channel, i then took this image and made it into the base for a fractal
I decided to do more image to fractal work after finding the red tree photo fractal i posted last time, the idea to use rust came from this texture image i made

you may have noticed alot of changes...
this includes the new blog header, the image will change, but notice how it now only appears on the front page and the new overlay that opens when you visit the frontpage, this may be removed but i added it, because i am developing it for Psyk who plans to use it on his blogspot, the code has been taken from someone elses project and ive been editing it to get it to work (his was pretty broken)no news on the dubstep or D&D since my time has been taken up with other things atm. Enjoy the new look!
i'd also like to mention how Blogspot seem to be trying to force blogs over to the new template system which emulates .webs' system. which i happen to hate, its hacky slow and removes any ability to truly edit things, they have done this by removing the old easy to use page editor and replacing it with this shitty code one, if i didnt know what a "span" or "H1" class is i would be fucked!

probably not, well it was where i uploaded my discord and dubstep album and some other free eps, and planned to keep it upto date with my mixes. although it died due to not finding a good enough medium for publicity.

soon i will make a new mix, and upload it here, in a new section entitled Mixes they will be streamable from this site, so no need for unnecessary download. If this is popular i will upload the discord and dubstep in several user friendly volumes! So keep an eye out for it!

Simple Pipemaking

anyone who wants to learn to make a simple pipe needs look no further than the local garden center and a small thicket.

you will need:-

-some bamboo rods, [these can be bought at a garden center, make sure you buy thin ones]

-a branch of a non-toxic tree of choice, such as sycamore [some trees are toxic so be carefull in your choice]

how to make:-

(1)- cut a length of the bamboo rods, with no knots, that is not too thich or too thin [i like em around 5mm-1cm]

(2)- hollow it out with a peice of wire being carefull to get out all the powder, [no reason for this just not pleasant]. once you can blow through it move on to the next step.

(3)- choose a length of the branch about 2cm-4cm in length for the bowl, cut it off of the branch, decide where your stem will join to this bowl [ at the side, e.c.t. ],

(4)-now hollow out the bowl, and create a hole for the stem to go into, join the two up carefully.

(5)-fit the stem and the bowl together and make sure you can blow through and that the bowl and stem fit tightly.

(6)-finish the pipe, [cleaning decoration, ect.]

i have never smoked baccy in one of these pipes [no reason i just dont smoke tabbacco] but they are farely versatile and could be fitted with extra bits to filter the smoke [or just a ciggarette filter].

there are countless variations on this design possible, experiment, enjoy.
off-course i take no resposibility for anything negative that happens during creation or use.

i will endevour to add pictures at some point, the current picture is not mine , i have no rights to it, it just serves as an example.

[the picture depicts the kind of pipe this describes, except for the knots in the bamboo and the way the bowl joins it, this is possible but it is easier just to stick it straight to the bowl.]
